There's one who walks among you,
forever cloaked in shadow.
Who plays a harp with peircing strings,
and speaks in musical tones.

One who stirs and flies at night,
when the other angels sleep.
Whose rimless eyes watch the dawn,
whose rays in which she creeps.

A halo not quite golden,
but fashioned of burnished brass.
Her scarcely feathered wings,
barely pull up from a crash.

In the never ending peace,
she questions what she sees.
Doubting what they've been told,
wondering what came to be.

There's a Devil in our Heaven,
she's painting the gates black.
And hanging there a sign,
that says "no prisoners go back".

Author's Comments

According to someone, Faen I Himmel means Devil in Heaven or something roughly like that.

I was bored at 1 AM this morning.

Enjoy.

Excellent.
Very interesting idea.

My boyfriend had this to say:
"The fact that you only use rhymes on the second and fourth lines of a stanza suggests the name of the piece; harmonious and evil at the same time. However, until the last stanza, all these rhymes are half rhymes, commonly used to confuse the reader, or make them feel misplaced; do you do this because even the harmonious aspect of the poem is fraught with some evil? Following this theme, I notice the last stanza has a full rhyme; although the aspect of the stanza is very dark, does this suggest some sense of completion? Or even coming redemption for the devil? Just my thoughts."

However, I'm not that profound and will not say more than well done =]

Tell your boyfriend he's close. But since I wrote it at almost 2 in the morning. Do I remember what I was thinking? No.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

On a second read of this I find new meanings in it.
Mainly because I feel it sums up a experience I'm going through right now.

'There's a Devil in our Heaven'
- The fact that it is our heaven could suggest [going out on a tangent here] that a relationship is tainted by one partner. The 'heaven' is the happiness of the relationship but still the Devil can't accept this.
It could be that the Devil isn't a person. Maybe the Devil is a fragment of a person, a sort of split personality deep within the I persona.

'A halo not quite golden,
but fashioned of burnished brass.
Her scarcely feathered wings,
barely pull up from a crash.'
- She has been hurt previously and this has created her damaged mind. She's almost perfect, almost complete and healed but still the damage remains. It's not all of her, it's her past experiences.

'In the never ending peace,
she questions what she sees.
Doubting what they've been told,
wondering what came to be.'
- This suppports the idea of the Devil's inability to accept the possibility of happiness. Possibly because she doesn't believe that anything can be devoid of flaws. Or maybe because from previous hurt she has little trust in 'angels'.

Whoa, I ramble.

Yayyy you got it!

Its so refreshing to finally have someone get all the underlying nuances. You should look into a career as a literary analyst, seriously.

Also, the Devil is the Angel.

*Sigh of relief*
I feel better now :P
I've been worrying about me being a little crazy with that interpretation ^_^

This is one of my favourite poems by you so far =]
